Triodos Bank - A unique sustainable office

Triodos Bank moved into their new, fully sustainable and circular office in 2019. It is the first large-scale, 100% wood, reconstructible office building and will have a minimal CO2 footprint.

About the project

We are delighted to have provided Triodos Bank with a building control solution that contributes to creating the optimum indoor climate for the occupants of their new space.

To control the automated solar shading for this prestigious office building, our local Netherlands Project Team provided and commissioned an animeo KNX solution, guaranteeing optimum daylight management, glare protection, and better viewing comfort.

An intelligently controlled, automated shading system contributes to energy efficiency by reducing the need for artificial lighting and heating and cooling, and uses data from a weather station in order to react to real time environmental conditions.

“We are delighted to have been a part of this innovative office building for Triodos Bank, which is truly a world first. Triodos Bank wanted to reflect their values of ethical and sustainable banking in their new home, which is why they decided to create a sustainable building with as low a C02 footprint as possible.

Incorporating the forest location was also a key priority, and the three transparent towers provide a beautiful daily view for all employees. With these environmental goals in mind, as well as a building with so much glass, managing daylight effectively is really important.

Our animeo KNX solution will allow Triodos to maximize their energy efficiency. The solution adapts to the seasons for maximum energy savings - it utilizes solar gains from the sun in winter and in the summer helps reduce cooling requirements.

The automated solar shading also helps Triodos Bank employees to enjoy the beautiful outside view. We know through research, that with traditional, manual blind solutions, once they have been closed, they are often left that way. However, with automated solutions like the one in place at the Triodos Bank project, blinds or screens move when necessary, without intervention, to eliminate unwanted glare, meaning that the building occupants can remain comfortable but also make the most of the nature that surrounds them.
